This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for Massachusetts Boys State (officially known as American Legion Massachusetts Boys State). This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by Massachusetts Boys State, except where stated otherwise. It will notify you of the following:

  • With whom it is shared;

  • How it is secured;
  • How policy changes will be communicated; and
  • How to address concerns over misuse of personal data.

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing 

We are the sole owners of the information collected from you. We only have access to the information we collect (including Personally Identifiable Information) that you voluntarily give us via your program registration form or information you otherwise provide to us verbally, physically and/or electronically. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone unless otherwise noted. 

We will use your information to allow for the operation of the Massachusetts Boys State program held annually in June. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to Massachusetts Girl State (officially known as American Legion Auxiliary Massachusetts Girls State) and the Massachusetts Boys & Girls State Foundation for the sole purpose of fundraising.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via mail, phone, or email in the future to provide you information about the program (Massachusetts Boys State), for fundraising, or for changes to this privacy policy.

 Registration 

In order to attend the Massachusetts Boys State Program, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration a user is required to give certain information (such as name and contact information). This information is used to allow for operation of the program, and to contact you about the program. 

Sharing 

Many aspects of the Massachusetts Boys State program are integrated with Massachusetts Girls State, and as a result we may share your information with Massachusetts Girls State when necessary. Furthermore, we may share your basic information with Massachusetts Boys & Girls State Foundation for the sole purpose of fundraising. These other entities do not retain, share, or use the information provided by us for any secondary purposes beyond what is mentioned above.   

Security 

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information to the program, your information is protected both online and offline.

Whenever we collect any information (such as Personally Identifiable Information), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only staff members who need said information to perform a specific function are granted access. The computers/servers on which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.

Cookies 

We may use “cookies” on our site (maboysstate.org), as well as third party websites that host our services. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. For instance, when we use a cookie to identify you, you would not have to log in with a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our site. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information on our site.

This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

Surveys & Contests 

From time-to-time our program requests information via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and contact information), and demographic information (such as city and zip code). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of improving the program.

Notification of Changes

We have the discretion to update this privacy policy at any time. When we do, we will post a notification on the Privacy Policies page of our website. We encourage Users to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this privacy policy periodically and become aware of modifications.

Data Retention

We will store your personal information to permit the operation of the program (Massachusetts Boys State), afterward we may retain and use your information as necessary. We will attempt to remove your personal data upon request.  

Data Collected from Minors

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18, or knowingly allow such persons to provide us with their personal information, without a parent or guardian consent. If you are under 18, do not transmit any personal information to us without parent or guardian permission. In the event we learn that we have collected personal information from anyone under the age of 18, and do not have a parent or guardian consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.

Do Not Track Signals

The Massachusetts Boys State website (maboysstate.org) does not track its users over time and across third party websites to provide enhanced experiences and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals.
